Oakleaf Hydrangeas Hydrangea quercifoli By Yvonne Stinson
This native shrub is multi-stemmed, typically growing 4-6 feet tall and wide, but may grow to 8 feet tall and wide. Growing naturally on bluffs, in moist woods, ravines and stream banks in Georgia and Florida, it flourishes in organically rich and well-drained soil in morning sun and afternoon shade. The shrub multiplies by sending runners to expand its area and begins producing lovely white flowers in April. Water the Oakleaf Hydrangea well while it is becoming established, but once established it will be somewhat drought tolerant and must not be overwatered.
Beautiful all year-round, in the fall its large leaves which resemble oak leaves, are vibrantly red, purple and bronze. Oakleaf Hydrangea makes a stunning addition to yard or garden.
